Swedish company Opsio has unveiled PrismIQ, an advanced automated visual inspection service aimed at revolutionizing quality control in manufacturing by detecting production defects in real time. Initially launched in India, this technology combines industrial cameras with sophisticated deep-learning models tailored specifically to each manufacturer’s products, enabling the identification of surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional variations, and assembly errors during the production process. Plans for a broader international expansion are underway.
The PrismIQ system is designed to operate on edge hardware directly integrated into production lines, which allows for swift processing of inspection results and reduces the dependence on traditional manual checks. The data generated by the system can be seamlessly integrated with existing PLC and SCADA infrastructure, facilitating automated sorting and decision-making on the production line. This approach addresses the limitations of manual inspections, particularly in high-speed manufacturing environments where it is challenging to scrutinize each product individually. Furthermore, the system incorporates active learning, using production data to continually enhance its detection models.
In contrast to standalone vision software, PrismIQ is provided as a comprehensive service package. Opsio manages the entire process, including camera, lens, and lighting configuration, model development and validation, integration with factory systems, and ongoing operational support. The service also encompasses operator training, quality dashboards, and regular performance assessments. The company highlights that a typical deployment, from feasibility assessment to full production implementation, can be completed in eight to 12 weeks.
India was strategically chosen for the initial launch due to its rapidly growing manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established presence in the region, including an AI Lab in Bengaluru dedicated to developing and testing industrial AI solutions. PrismIQ is presently available to manufacturers in the automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. The engagement process begins with a feasibility study and proof-of-concept using product samples from potential customers.
Daniel Hedlund, Chairman of Opsio, emphasized the significance of quality in India’s burgeoning manufacturing landscape, stating that maintaining high standards is essential for achieving sustained global competitiveness. Praveena Shenoy, Country Manager for Opsio India, added that the introduction of automated inspection is expected to help manufacturers detect defects at an earlier stage, thereby enhancing quality-control procedures.
