Delhi to Launch Namo Yamuna Ferry Service for Chhath Puja Celebrations

by admin477351

Delhi is set to enhance its river transportation infrastructure with the launch of the “Namo Yamuna” ferry service just in time for Chhath Puja. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the service is scheduled to begin operations a few days before the festival, which takes place from November 13 to 16. The ferry aims to provide a new travel experience along the Yamuna River, connecting Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur over a five-kilometer stretch.

During an inspection at the Sonia Vihar Sports Club, CM Gupta also visited Sur Ghat, a key location for the upcoming Chhath celebrations. The area is being developed to serve as a riverside picnic spot where families can gather and participate in the festivities. The government envisions the ferry service as an added attraction, offering passengers scenic views of the ghats and the natural landscapes along the riverbanks.

The one-hour cruise is set to offer a unique vantage point of the Yamuna, with tickets priced at approximately ₹500 per person. The boat, named Island Boats 40 (IB 40), features a catamaran-style hull designed for stability and is built to navigate the river’s shallow stretches. Constructed by Mumbai-based Inspiration Marine Pvt Ltd, the vessel promises a stable and enjoyable journey.

Initially planned for a February 20 launch, the ferry service faced delays due to incomplete project work. With the upcoming launch, the service will include well-equipped jetties featuring boarding facilities, ticket counters, and waiting areas to ensure a smooth travel experience for passengers.

The introduction of the “Namo Yamuna” ferry service marks a significant step towards promoting river tourism in Delhi, while also offering an alternative mode of transport during one of the city’s major cultural events. As the government continues to develop the area around Sur Ghat, the ferry service is poised to become a popular choice for both locals and visitors looking to explore the Yamuna River.
