BJP to Hold Rallies in Assam to Counter Congress Criticism of Democratic Institutions

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a series of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rallies across the state from October 13 to October 31. These rallies aim to respond to what the BJP perceives as Congress’s attempts to undermine democratic institutions. Speaking in Guwahati, Sarma emphasized that the rallies would be peaceful and held at district headquarters to bolster support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reinforce public confidence in constitutional institutions.

Sarma criticized Congress and other opposition parties for allegedly challenging key institutions like the Election Commission and the Supreme Court for political gain. He also addressed Congress’s opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, arguing that such measures are crucial for addressing voter list concerns and issues related to illegal immigration in Assam.

Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Sarma accused him of applying different standards to election outcomes based on political affiliations. He further criticized Gandhi for his stance towards the Supreme Court, asserting that constitutional bodies should remain free from political pressure.

The BJP has stated that the rallies will focus on supporting democratic institutions and opposing the Congress party’s approach to electoral and constitutional matters. This announcement comes amid ongoing political tensions between the BJP and Congress over electoral processes, the independence of institutions, and immigration issues in Assam.
