Cockroach Janta Party Accuses Modi Government of Suppressing Delhi Protests

by admin477351

India is witnessing escalating protests in Delhi as the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) accuses Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of stifling democratic dissent and fostering a climate of fear. The demonstrations, now in their second day, are centered on demands for the resignation of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whom protesters accuse of orchestrating a voter-list revision that allegedly removed about 130 million names, potentially disenfranchising minority communities.

The protests, organized by the CJP alongside student groups and civil society activists, have seen a heavy-handed response from the authorities. Extensive security measures, including police barricades and restrictions on public transport and internet services, have been deployed across the capital. Thousands of demonstrators have reportedly been detained as police attempt to prevent the assembly of protestors at various sites.

Despite the crackdown, CJP leaders like Abhijit Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka, who were detained and later released under conditions aimed at preventing public disorder, have vowed to continue their protests. They have expanded their criticism to include broader allegations against Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing the government of using force to protect its political interests. Das emphasized that the movement would persist, highlighting concerns over civil liberties and electoral transparency.

Reports of excessive force by police during detentions have emerged, with student activist Neha Bora and Delhi University student Surbi Yadav among those recounting abusive treatment. The demonstrators maintain their commitment to protesting until their demands are addressed, despite facing overcrowded detention conditions.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, rejects allegations of electoral manipulation, with spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia defending the voter-list revision as a legitimate effort to remove ineligible voters. The party describes claims of undermining democratic institutions as baseless.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has joined the call for accountability, accusing the government of electoral misconduct and adding pressure on the ruling party amid growing concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. As protests continue, they underscore the rising political tensions in India over issues of electoral fairness and civil freedoms, with both sides holding firm to their respective positions.
