Putin Seeks Tech Collaboration with PM Modi During Jaishankar’s Moscow Visit

During a recent visit to Moscow, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin. President Putin extended his best wishes to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing optimism about an upcoming meeting. He suggested that their next engagement might coincide with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. Additionally, Putin is anticipated to travel to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders’ summit scheduled in September.

President Putin emphasized the strengthening trade relations between Russia and India, noting a significant increase in Russian fertiliser exports to India. He also mentioned that Moscow is prepared to further expand these supplies, underscoring the deepening economic ties between the two nations.

In an earlier meeting, Jaishankar and Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov discussed ways to bolster bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Manturov highlighted the potential for Russia to localize nuclear fuel production in India, indicating a strategic move to enhance collaboration in the energy sector.

Jaishankar’s agenda in Moscow also includes a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, where discussions are expected to cover a wide range of topics concerning bilateral relations, as well as regional and global developments.
