India and Poland have committed to enhancing their cooperation in key strategic areas, including defense, nuclear energy, and advanced technologies. This agreement was reached during discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, focusing on expanding economic ties and aiming to double bilateral trade by 2030.

The leaders identified opportunities for joint development and production in strategic sectors such as defense equipment, space technology, and nuclear energy. Additionally, they discussed collaboration in critical minerals, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and fintech. Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Polish companies to partner with India in co-development and co-production efforts, while Prime Minister Tusk emphasized the need to diversify access to critical minerals and strategic resources to bolster economic security.

The two countries are targeting an increase in bilateral trade from the current approximate level of $6.3 billion to twice that amount by 2030. A delegation of nearly 100 Polish companies is exploring business opportunities in several sectors, including defense, agriculture technology, pharmaceuticals, food processing, mining, infrastructure, and technology. Plans are also in place to establish a bilateral startup bridge and develop partnerships in critical minerals and coal gasification, with Indian officials anticipating that the proposed India-European Union trade agreement will create additional avenues for exports and investment.

Defense cooperation remains a significant priority, with India and Poland working towards an agreement on the protection and exchange of classified information to facilitate closer defense-industrial collaboration. They have also agreed to establish a defense industry dialogue and a counterterrorism dialogue. The countries are exploring joint manufacturing prospects for military equipment, drones, and satellite technologies, with cooperation expected to benefit from the broader strategic partnership between India and the European Union.

The discussions also covered regional and international issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and developments in West Asia. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s support for meaningful diplomatic efforts to achieve peace, while Polish officials welcomed New Delhi’s calls for a negotiated solution to the Ukraine conflict. The meeting underscored longstanding people-to-people connections, including Poland’s assistance to Indian students evacuated from Ukraine in 2022 and historical support provided to Polish refugees in India during the Second World War.

This meeting marks a significant step in strengthening India-Poland relations, with both governments seeking to expand trade, enhance strategic cooperation, and build more resilient supply chains. The deepened partnership is expected to yield mutual benefits and contribute to the broader strategic goals of both nations.
