Maharashtra Requires Aadhaar for Property Transactions to Curb Fraud

by admin477351

Starting October 1, Maharashtra has mandated Aadhaar authentication for registering immovable property documents, a step aimed at curbing fraud and enhancing identity verification in property transactions. This new requirement encompasses 63 types of registrations, such as property sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds.

According to Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the initiative is designed to minimize impersonation, reduce fake documentation, and limit human intervention during the registration process. Individuals without an Aadhaar number will need to provide proof of their application for Aadhaar along with other government-issued identification, which will be verified before completing the transaction.

The government has also introduced special provisions for minors and certain eligible categories. Children who do not possess an Aadhaar number will not be denied the benefits of property registration solely due to the absence of this identification number.

Officials emphasize that this move is intended to make the property registration process more secure, transparent, and efficient. The government believes that integrating Aadhaar authentication will streamline procedures and protect against fraudulent activities, thereby benefiting all stakeholders involved in property dealings.
